Introducing Art Camp 2019's official wine partner, BAIE Wines!
Twelve years ago, locals Simon Kuc and his father Peter planted 20 acres of vineyard on their family property on the Bellarine Peninsula. After studying agricultural science at University, Simon grew a love for wine and farming and started selling his own grapes to bigger vineyards in the region.
Simon eventually moved down to the Bellarine full time after marrying Nadine, and the couple decided to start producing wine under their own label, BAIE Wines.
Today, the business is booming with customers who can see the true passion and love that goes into the making of every single bottle. BAIE is the true essence of a family-run business. As a small batch vineyard, BAIE is run by Simon & Nadine Kuc, along with Simon’s parents, Peter and Anne.
Simon and Nadine are passionate about producing wine that is reflective of the local environment surrounding the vineyard. They aim to best represent the geology, climate and season in which the grapes are growing with every batch of wine they make.
However, one of the most notable factors that goes into making these wines so special is the care, love and respect from Simon and Nadine. The philosophy of the brand is to ‘Take Great Care’, of each other, of the vines, of the wines and of every single person who works with BAIE. This philosophy is deeply embedded within every single beautifully and meticulously crafted bottle of wine.
“We care deeply about the complex management of our vineyard so that we represent the best of our vineyard’s intricate soil, maritime and cool climate, which is managed by Simon and Peter,” said Nadine.
“Simon’s Mum, Anne and sister, Lauren host weddings at our beautiful waterfront estate, working alongside a myriad of local creators and makers to ensure magical days for our bride and grooms and their guests.”
Nadine does all of the “talking and drinking”. She works with local restaurants and wine stores, hosting pop-up cellar doors at events to showcase the beautiful products and promote the brand. Nadine has a strong focus on the interaction with customers, with a very personal and hands-on approach that resonates with people.
At Art Camp, we want to showcase the very best local produce and work with brands who are passionate about not only what they create but how they create it.
Growing up, Nadine has strong memories of childhood camps.
“I remember long sunny days and exhausted nights at a year 7 school camp on Rottnest Island. We flew in on a light plane to get there so I thought I was a bit of a Rockstar. I love riding, snorkelling and exploring the island.
“My Mum will never forgive herself for how sunburnt I was when I got home, and she still has the aluminium serving tray I bought her from the island as my thank you for letting me go!”
